A much-delayed update
Okay, life got rather crazy post-graduation, what with trying to sell the house and reduce the amount of stuff in my life before packing the remainder for the move to California.

Yup, I'm back. :D

And today, I just received word that I've been accepted to my first job in the culinary field. Whee!

It's a pretty challenging job working 'corporate food service' and the corporation I'll be working at is none other than PDI-Dreamworks! To be more accurate, I'm being hired by the company that provides food service to PDI-Dreamworks, but the position will include catered services that will expose me to some of the inner workings of the CG group so they have a Non-Disclosure document I have to sign as well as get my background checked as part of the pre-employment screening. The pay is low but decent to start (a heck of a lot better than minimum wage), and there's definintely room for advancement as well as real health benefits and such.

Hopefully, it won't take another two months before I'll be able to post in my journal as I adjust to the job's schedule (starts at oh-dark-thirty) and who knows, maybe I'll get back into drawing, too!

Yay! Glad to hear you got it. Congrats, and good luck! Seems like things are slowly looking up for all the friends-looking-for-jobs I've got.

Hurrah! Glad to yhear you have a cooking job with benefits. You should keep a few Inherit The Earth CDs handy to show off your work just in case they're looking for extra artists. ;D Though I'm certain the cooking will keep you super-busy at it is. Benefits means good times. Catering stuffs does seem to start early indeed. with all the prep.. but with counterpoint of usually getting out at sane hours.

Hours of sanity...

Yea, as our cafe provides breakfast and lunch services, my workday starts at 6am but I get out at 2:30pm. This means that I also miss the rush hour traffic both ways (more so in the morning than in the afternoon).

My official position is Veg Entree and Soups, but I also make the two hot cereals for breakfast and assist the chef in his 'menued' soup and any bakery that he decides to do for the mornings. For the actual lunch service, I help out at the interactive station.

Today our station served Southern Fried Chicken with Rosemary smashed potatoes, chicken gravy, and steamed white-and-green beans. I ended up bringing some chicken home for dinner, along with a healthy serving of the couscous risotto I made for Veg Entree. Whee! :D

Re: Hours of sanity...

Getting away from traffic is a good thing (especially in the SF Bay Area). Of course, this means that you have to get to bed at a sensible (?) hour the night before...

Nice perk to be able to take some of the left overs home, especially given the cost of food (ever rising) these days.
